Doing The Research
That’s okay, believe it or not, most people aren’t aware either. Microblading is a semi- permanent cosmetic enhancement that creates the illusion of fuller looking eyebrows. This is a popular hair stoke technique that emerged from Asia and has been on the steady rise since 2015. When applied to artistry, microblading mimics the hair growth pattern in your eyebrow to provide a naturally realistic result.
This technique has a variety of names such as; Micro-stroking, eye embroidery, permanent cosmetics, feather brows, the floating brow, 3D Brows, 4D brows, etching, powder fill and more!
Although microblading is considered a form of cosmetic tattooing, it should not be confused with “solid brow” or “traditional” tattooing. The microblading process implants a high quality pigment into the upper dermis (outer layer) of the skin through the use of a manual hand tool. This hand tool is made up of various micro, disposable needles that allow us to accurately mimic hair like strokes in the skin to either reconstruct, fill in/over gaps and thinning hair. Immediately after application, your brows will look fuller with crisp hairstrokes. Since this is a two step procedure, you will come back to us within 4-6 weeks for your touch up. During this time, we will go over any areas in your eyebrow that did not fully take the pigment or needs additional enhancement. Once completely healed, those strokes tend to blur out and render a natural, feathered like appearance.
Although the saying “beauty is pain” has some truth to it, to say that microblading is “painful” is an arguable statement. For that reason, we’ve chosen not to use this word to reference the level of discomfort you may feel during your procedure. However, we understand that everyone’s pain tolerance is different, and we do our best to manage it. The best example we can give to describe this experience is that it can feel slightly more uncomfortable than getting your eyebrows threaded.
To help minimize discomfort, Huemon Beauty follows customized steps to effectively numb the procedure area. Our exclusive prepping process allows our clients to benefit instantly from the numbing effects prior to starting the procedure. We also utilize various numbing agents as needed during the appointment (Note – if you have difficulty with dental numbing, please let us know!). Once we’ve prepped the skin + applied the numbing agents, we let this sit for about 25-30 minutes and then start the microblading procedure.
Somethings to note while numbing:
It’s common to hear a ‘scrapping’ like sound during the process and to feel a cooling pressure in the procedure area (Please note – if sounds like this irritate or make you uncomfortable, let us know!)
Everyone metabolize numbing at different rates
Some can feel the numbing take effect in more areas than others.
We encourage our clients to let us know when they feel their numbing wear off as we can continue to apply as needed.
Following the procedure, there may be short period of discomfort such as a mild headache or a “heavy” feeling in the procedure area however, this will fade within hours.
Although microblading over previously inked skin can be challenging, it can be done! Clients who have had their eyebrows previously tattooed will need to come in for a separate consultation so we can observe how deep the ink was deposited and determine the best course of action for making such corrections.
In most cases, clients with previously tattooed eyebrows will need a color correction and/or saline removal prior to microblading. This may take multiple sessions to complete depending on the condition of your skin and the color/hue that the tattoo has formed. We may also be more inclined to recommend a Ombre Shading or Shading service vs. traditional microblaiding. If we’re unable to do a removal in house, we would recommend alternatives such as “laser removal” to consider.

We offer three main microblading styles/services. All of our brow styles are beautiful and can be adjusted to appear softer or more intense to fit your style, skin, lifestyle and other factors.
Traditional Microblading – This is a manual process were we use a fine, disposable hand tool to mimic the hairsokes in your skin to create the illusion of fuller looking eyebrows.
Produces the most “natural” results
Last 6-18 months
More scabbing
Great for individuals with sparse/over tweezed and fine brow hair
Ideal for all skin types (dry/combination skin types most preferred)
Ombre’ Shading – This is a process that can be done manually or with a machine to create a more filled in/powdered effect vs. individual hair strokes. The brow will heal to look lighter in the front and darker on the tail.
Produces a more powdered “makeup” look making it a great option for people who usually fill in their eyebrows with makeup daily.
Last 1-3 years
New and trending for people who want a more solid brow or a tinted color behind their natural brows
Great for individuals with oily skin as they are less receptive to crisp healed hair strokes (will tend to blend more anyways)
Works on all skin types.
Combination (Combo Brows) - This procedure incorporates the combination of traditional microblading and manual shading. Hair strokes are placed in the front of the brows while shading takes place mid-way through the brow and goes to the end of the tail. This is a hybrid approach that gives individuals a intensified 3d look.
Gives you the best of both worlds!
Last 1-2 years
Mild scabbing
Works on all skin types
Microblading services can range between $350.00 to $1400.00 depending on a few factors such as; the artist’s experience, the location/area and the type of microblading style you decide to get done.
Your initial appointment can take between 3-4 hours to complete. However, please note that we cannot guarantee that this will be the time for all of our clients. At Huemon Beauty, we fit in your consultation, mapping/shaping of your eyebrows, numbing the procedure area for about 25 minutes, the actual microblading procedure and discussing your aftercare routine.
All microblading appointments are a two - step process. Your initial microblading appointment will include; a consultation, the procedure, after care kit and a 4-6 week touch up. The 4-6 week touch up is essential! In case your brows heal lighter than expected, have inconsistencies with the way your skin took/rejected the pigment and/or if you desired to modify any area of your brow – this would be the time to do it!
Your first session will consist of your consultation, mapping/shaping your desired eyebrow, the initial microblading procedure and discussion on your aftercare regime.
THE CONSULTATION: Before the appointment begins, we will discuss your health history, expectations and results of the treatment. This can take up to 30 minutes
MAPPING THE EYEBROW: After the consultation, we will collaborate on your desired brow shape. We do not use stencil eyebrow patterns because we value the fact that all of our clients have a unique identity and thus, enjoy customizing looks that work for them. We will use your face structure and specific measurements to map out (sketch) a shape that is complimentary your features. Adjustments can be made until we achieve your desired look. This can take up to 30 minutes.
SELECTING THE RIGHT PIGMENT: We determine the correct pigment color for you by paying close attention to your skin tone, undertone and personal features.
NUMBING: Huemon Beauty follows customized steps to effectively numb the procedure area. Our exclusive prepping process allows our clients to benefit instantly from the numbing effects prior to starting the procedure. We also utilize various numbing agents as needed during the appointment (note – if you have difficulty with dental numbing, please let us know!). Once we’ve prepped the skin + applied the numbing agents, we let this sit for about 25-30 minutes and then start the microblading procedure
THE PROCEDURE: The microblading procedure will take up to 45 minutes to complete. This is where we will make the initial strokes into eyebrow with the pigment.
DISCUSSING AFTERCARE: Once the procedure is done, we will clean the area and discuss the aftercare regimen. This must be followed to a T to retain the best results. Please read the aftercare regiments "Here"
Of course not and we prefer that you don’t! When we have the opportunity to blend microblading with your eyebrows, it creates the most natural look! We believe that microlading should be viewed as a resource to enhance your natural beauty, not take away from it.
At the beginning of your procedure, we will measure, map and create a shape for you based off the natural symmetry and structure of your face. After we map and create a guideline for your eyebrows, we will use a twinkle razor to trim off any hairs that fall outside the new eyebrow line.
Yes! Results are immediate. The pigment color selected should be rich and the shape of your eyebrow and hair strokes will look crisp and well defined! This is always the most exciting day for us and our clients because it marks the first day of their brow transformation! Sometimes clients experience redness due to the pressure applied during the procedure and/or have a white lining around their eyebrow from the numbing cream. This is normal – within 24 hours it will go back to normal.
On the second day, your brows will appear more drastic in color as the pigment is starting to settle into your skin. The color should look about 2-3 shades darker by this time. However, this is nothing to worry about as it is all apart of the healing process. After the first week or so when your eyebrows go through the healing/scabbing period they will become noticeably lighter. The color will fade up to 40%. It will take approximately 2 weeks (14 days) for your brows to fully heal and about 1 month for the color to fully mature and reveal itself.
No, Microblading does not stop/prevent hair growth or cause any long term damage. Microblading does not go deep enough into the skin to effect the follicles or growth pattern of the hair. Hair follicles are one of the most complex organs of the body and is mainly affected by hormones, health (this can also include stress and the process of progressive hair loss such as alopecia) and nutrition (which can include a vitamin deficiency). You can also over traumatize your hair follicles by over plucking, tweezing and waxing. This damage can lead to completely killing the follicles which will cause them to no longer grow.
Yes however, individuals who request the traditional microblading service may encounter challenges in retaining the pigment – because of this, we tend recommend the combo brow or the shaded powder design instead. It’s important to note that people with dry to normal skin can retain the pigment for up to 2 years while people with oily skin only last between 6 month -1 year. The excess oils from your skin makes it a little more challenging for the pigmented stokes to heal and thus, can eat way at the pigment over time – causing you to return for more than 1 touch up to redefine blurred strokes.
If you have extremely oily skin and would like to elect the traditional microblading service, please let us know. As stated above, once healed, oily skin has a tendency to spread/blur strokes more than they do naturally. We will make note of this and may decide to add more space in between each stoke to avoid this result.
Microblading can be done on a variety of skin types however, it’s most effective for people with normal to dry skin since they retain the best hair strokes once healed. It is also very important to note that great results come from the combination of our artistry, skills/knowledge and how healthy and strong your skin is.
Individuals with pre-existing skin conditions such as active skin cancer, eczema, extremely acne ( Note individuals who are currently using or have used Accutane within the last 6 months – 1yr have an altered skin condition that will not heel correctly after this procedure. ) , keratosis pilaris, psoriasis, rosacea and more are not considered good microblading candidates. The majority of these contraindications cause easy bleeding which makes it extremely difficult to retain color and crisp healing. Below are a few other skin types that are not considered good microblading candidates:
Those on skin medications such as roaccutaine, antasure, steroids
Individuals with an autoimmune disorder such as lupus or frontal fibrosing alopecia
Individuals with hyper sensitive skin, large pores in the T-zone area (eyebrows and forehead) tend to blue lines and color
Individuals with deep wrinkles (Note - Botox should be performed no sooner than at least 2 weeks prior to your appointment)
Individuals who tan regularly and/or are currently sunburned (Please no intentional tanning 4 weeks prior to application. If you get sunburn on your face, you must allow it to heal for 4 weeks.)
Correct! Color retention and overall results will vary depending on your skin type + additional factors such as; following your aftercare regimen, lifestyle, sun exposure, health etc.
Key things to remember when it comes to your skin type:
OILY SKIN - tends to 'push out' the pigment quicker, and may need more frequent touch ups. They also tend to blur as they heal and resuming more of a “powdery” look.
DRY SKIN – Retains pigments very well and may not need frequent ouch ups. Strokes tend to heal very crisp and defined.
MATURE SKIN - is very fine, delicate and thin. Similar to oily skin, it can heal slightly blurry or lines may increase in size and look “thicker” However, mature skin can also ‘ash’ out the selected color after the first appointment. Always note that results can tend to be unpredictable with more mature skin and make take more than one touch up.
Please note: Individuals over 70 years of age have an increased chance of final results appearing more blurred/powdery due to the reduced elasticity and low collagen in the skin.
Honestly, regardless of the shape, we use specific measurements from your face to design an eyebrow that is most flattering to your unique shape. However, we do keep in mind goals for each shape face.
Long Faces: Our goal for clients who have longer shaped faces would be to bring the focus in more to your face by going for a brown with little to no arch. This helps focus the eye from moving up and down the face to help it appear shorter. Celebrities such as Sara Jessica Parker, Liv Tyler and Iman are great examples
Oval Shape Faces: Our goal is to develop a softer brow and avoid making them look too arched. Celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey, Tina Fey and Kate Middleton are great exmaples.
Round Shape Faces: Our objective is to elongate the face and narrow the jawline. We shy away from making the eyebrow too “round” as it will enhance the roundness of the face. Interestingly enough, straight brows can tend to make the face look shorter and dramatic edges don’t seem to favor the curved contours of the face. Similar to oval shaped faces, we want to keep a soft brow with a slightly curved tail. Extra length at the tail of the brow will help create the illusion of a longer face. Celebrities such as Chrissy Teigen, Kelly Clarkson, Mila Kunis and Emma Stone are great examples.
Square Shape Faces: Our objective is to lift the arch and elongate the tail of the brow to create the illusion of a longer face. Celebrities such as Angelina Jolie, Lucy Lui, Demi Moore and Rhianna
Rectangle Shape Faces: Our objective is make the brows straighter to help make the forehead appear wider than the jawline. Works will with arched and soft brows. Celebrities such as Liv Tyler, Kim Kardashian are great examples.
Heart Shape Faces: Our objective is to make the brows appear soft with a slight curve. Rounded brows will emphasize the quality of the heart shaped face. Straight brows will exaggerate the forehead. Celebrities such as Reese Witherspoon, Ashley & Mary-kate Olsen, Ashanti and Halle Berry are great examples.
There are several other contraindications we’d like you to be made aware of that may require a note from your doctor giving you consent.
Uncontrolled Diabetes Type 1 and 2
Uncontrolled High blood pressure
Auto-immune disease
Thyroid / Graves’ disease
Any other medical condition that causes slow healing or a high risk of infection
Those with easily triggered post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation
Those undergoing radiotherapy or chemotherapy treatment at present (or due to undergo such treatment) and any radiotherapy or chemotherapy that came to an end less than 42 days ago from the date of the treatment
Those on skin medications such as roaccutaine, antasure, steroids
Epileptic that has experienced a seizure in the last two years
Other contraindications to be made aware of:
Not following the before care instructions or being able to follow the aftercare instructions. (This applies to every scheduled appointment, not just the original procedure)
Flu or cold: Please reschedule your appointment if you have a cold or flu
Consuming alcohol or caffeine the day before and of the procedure. Doing so will increase blood flow/thinning causing you to bleed which pushes the pigment out and results in less color retention
Working out the day before or the day of the procedure
If you are or took antibiotics less than 3 weeks from your procedure date
People allergic to nickel (must inform us at the time of booking so we can use a different blade for you)
People who are taking blood thinning medicines (have to stop using prior to the procedure, please consult with your doctor)
People with active acne right on the eyebrows can still have the procedure but will need to avoid the acne area. The same will be done with skin tags and molds
People with allergies to makeup or pigmented colors
If you’re a blood donor, you may not give blood for 1 year following your procedure (Per Red Cross)
If you are a hemophiliac
People prone to keloids
People who are anemic
Of course. There are a few videos we’ve found to be extremely insightful that you can watch " Here ". However, please note these videos are not work of Huemon Beauty. They are videos of industry expects that can be found on Youtube.
Yes! Your touch up appointment is considered your “Refresh Appointment”. After 6 weeks, your skin will have fully healed from the procedure! During the healing period, your skin grew a new layer over skin over the microbladed area wich has added to the look of your results to be 30% - 70% lighter. However, no need to worry about this! At your first touch-up appointment, your healed results will be evaluated and any desired and necessary changes will be made.Healed results can be adjusted to lighter or darker color and if you weren't satisfied with the shape, we can do our best to modify it.
Please feel free to come to your appointment with your eyebrows done the way you normally do them or bring in photos of your eyebrows when they are done. We can use this (and any other eyebrow inspiration) to get a sense of how you may want to shape your eyebrows with microblading.
Please avoid taking any blood thinning medications the day of your appointment (Asprin, Ibuprofen, fish oil supplments etc). Please also avoid drinking any caffeine the morning of as well.
Please make sure you map out the directions to our location to ensure you arrive about 10 minutes before your appointment.
Please read our care commiments to get more infromation on how you can prep for your appointment and insight into your after care regimine " Here "
There is no down time needed after your microblading procedure. You may have a short period of time where the procedure area may still feel numb and/or heavy but this should subside in a matter of hours. You should be able to work and resume some of your normal activities. Please review our care commitments " Here " to review the healing expectations over the next week weeks.
It takes approximately 7-14 days for the brows to heal over, and about 1 month for the color to fully set in. Please refer to our care committments " Here " to review our expectations during the healing process.
Immediately after your appointment, your eyebrows will look noticeably different! They should look very crisp with a concentrated color. The second day, your brows will appear more drastic in color as the pigment is starting to settle into your skin.
This may sound like a challening task for some but our clients have told us that it wasn't that bad. The key is to not get your eyebrows wet during the healing phase. This is because water, steam and sweat can influence the change in the color of the pigment and contribute to fading before your results fully mature and heal.
You can wash your face/ wear light makeup around the microbladed area. During your showers, you can place a plastic wrap over your eyebrows or, if you wear a shower cap, just pull it over your eyebrows. .
Although microblading can't be removed, it will fade naturally over time. If you're unhappy with your brows right after it's done, you will need to wait until the 4-6 week period to make the necessary adjustments to them. Microblading too soon can cause trauma to your skin tissues and cause harsh scarring. This is something you will have to wait out but there is power in trusting the process!
Yes – Please revisit our care committements " Here " .
Also, here are some addiotnal remainders to note
Always wash your hands thoroughly with anti-bacterial soap before touching the tattooed area. You don’t want to get the area infected!
Do not wash your eyebrow area with soap.
Never apply lotion/oil on damp or wet tattoo. Other oily products to avoid; Aloevera, vitamin E, Homeopathic/natural products. They can pull the pigment color out of your skin and cause healed results to look blurred or faded.
Do not rub/scratch or traumatize the procedure area while it is healing; touching the procedure area with your fingers may cause an infection from unseen bacteria. Furthermore, your fingers may have added oils that can cause the pigment color to be removed.
Sabbing in a normal part of the healing process. Don't freak out if your scabbing comes off and it looks like it's taking pigment away with it. This process can leave a "patchy" apperance to the brows which is why you should not pick at your scabs - let them fall off NATURALLY. Picking your scabs can cause scarring, premature loss of pigment/hair and even an infection. The approximate scabbing period is 14 days however, healing can be prolonged if you’re immune system is compromised if you are generally stressed, and by poor diet.
No makeup around your eyebrows, lash tinting during the entire healing process – makeup with suffocate the area and won’t allow the area to breathe and heal properly -causing irritation and excessive scabbing
No sweating (salt is your worse enemy and will draw out the pigment!); No heavy work outs, saunas, laying out in the sun, swimming in chlorinated pools/ jacuzzi’s/ocean until area is completely healed.
If you have bangs or like to wear your hair on your face, you must clip them back for the first 7 days to avoid irritation and infection.
Absolutely no sun exposure or tanning for 3-4 weeks after procedure.
If you are a “face-sleeper” then sleeping on clean, satin pillowcase is suggest while the procedure area is healing.
If you’re a blood donor, you may not give blood for 1 year following your procedure (Per Red Cross)
Trust the process!
